Safety Tips

Admit or not, many of you drivers out there have committed the mistake of using mobile phones while driving. This, despite the numerous news you’ve heard and read about traffic accidents caused by cellphones. But prevention is always better than cure. So we share some safety tips with you developed by the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association and we hope the next time you’re on the road, you will remember them.

Spare some time to learn about your mobile phone’s features like the speed dial and redial so you won’t have to dial several numbers each time. With the speed dial and redial, you only need to press one number.

If possible, use a hands-free device like an earpiece or a phone cradle. This is to allow you to drive well without having to hold your cell phone.

Place your mobile phone within easy reach before you start driving. Take it out of your pocket or bag beforehand so you won’t have a hard time looking for it when you need to use it.

Inform the person you are talking to that you are driving. If possible, avoid making a call in heavy traffic or hazardous weather conditions.

Never take notes or search for phone numbers while driving. You may be confident enough to use one hand only while driving but please, don’t get yourself distracted.

Assess the traffic situation when you feel the need to call. If possible, make calls only when you are not moving or before pulling into traffic.

Avoid stressful or emotional conversations that may distract your attention from the road. If you are being provoked on the cellphone, keep your cool and just inform the person you are talking to settle your problems later. You can just hang up if you wish.

Keep your conversations short. Know how to end the conversation in a nice and sweet way especially when loved ones, friends or associates are calling. Never use the mobile phone to socialize while you’re on the road.
When in the middle of tricky traffic situations, just hang up even without prior warning. Just explain later what happened, it’s better than endangering your life.

For serious emergencies, dial 911. You can make the call free of charge from any cellular phone.
